More good signs

Still haven't been able to confirm actual copulation, but this is a really good sign. They have been roosting together non-stop for about a week now too, which is a change from them being on opposite ends of the cage for the last two years.

Very nice!

What did you do to get them to lock up?

The only thing I did differently this season was really soak them. That cage is 6 x 2 x 15" high and misting them down with a regular spray bottle, like I have in the past just wasn't getting it done. So I bought a gallon sprayer and started really soaking them once a day. Within a few days of the first soaking, they started hanging out together and they have been together 24/7 for over a week now. Funny thing is, the female left her side to go be with the male. She's always been the pushy one of that pair though.

Thanks for the info. I figured the deluge had something to do with it.

Billy, that looks like copulation to me. My Pseustes were lining their tails up exactly like that and sure enough they were quite connected eventhough it doesnt even look like they are lined up right.

That's even more encouraging. Admittedly, I didn't want to disturb them so I didn't get too close while they were like that. Plus I'm used to my CA boas and amazon tree boas where there is usually a really obvious tail wrap. Well I guess you know about that too!

Guess I better get the next box ready...

No, it is a good idea not to disturb them. Mine were actually facing away from each other with only their tails lined up touching just like yours...but going in opposite directions. It looked so weird and coincidental I gently lifted and saw they were indeed connected.

Now that I know what I know...I will not be touching them again if they are touching each other at any point. They stayed together for a bit but I found them apart later that night and I have no doubt my disturbance impacted them.

But it was actually kind of encouraging that my amazons split up at about the same time the Pseustes did and all I did was take pictures of them.

Since the pictures I posted, I have seen the amazons together one more time and the Pseustes have been hanging with each other a lot. I have not seen actual copulation again, but I know now their long tails in opposite directions can make it look like nothing...when indeed they are together.

But this is a time I really want to encourage people to look into the Herpstat Humidity. Clearly misting is a huge trick with stimulating breeding activity, especially with snakes like these. The herpstat humidity has so many more features and options than any timer, you can pretty much be assured it is triggering them when you are at work, sleeping, buying groceries, making forum posts, etc...and you have the security with the sensor that you will not be completely flooding your cage which could easily happen when trying to accomplish the same task with a timer.

And I can't erven get into all the crazy features you can do with this thing. My opinion, it is a must have for any tropical herp keeper.

I expect to see many baby SA snake pictures in another 3-4 months.

I do plan on picking up a misting system and one of those herpstat humidity controls in the near future.

Confirmed they were hooked up tight this morning! Fingers crossed now for good eggs and a smooth incubation!
