Reptile Ban HR669

Jonvd Apr 07, 2009 07:16 PM

Does anyone know of any people who are working for PIJAC? I am currently an environmental law student in NY (and lifelong herp collector/breeder/fanatic) and would really like to lend a helping hand with any volunteer help or anything that may be needed for the organization.

Judging from past decisions congress has made, this ban is NOT far fetched. i know if kingsnakes are your specialty you may be somewhat insulated...but technically this may very well include Mexican species as well, and could also lay the groundwork for future laws banning foreign state reptile ownership like (cant own a splendida if live in NY) if the bans invasive species section receives much deference since these organizations are considering everything to be invasive (even though everyone knows a splendida is not going to make it long in NY). I don't mean to be an alarmist, and I am sorry if i offended any supporting parties of the bill.

Anyway, if anyone has any connections, or if anyone reading this is connected with PIJACs initiative of destroying this ban, and would like whatever help a diligent, driven law student may be able to offer PLEASE CONTACT ME!

Thanks and good luck,

Jon

ps IAM NOT LAWYER, AND I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT NOR AM I ABLE TO GIVE LEGAL ADVICE, Iam a student looking to lend a hand.

I wish somebody represnting us hobbiests would post links so that our voice can be heard. They have to make it easy for people to sign a petition. Kingsnake.com would be the place.

..And I know about the information link above each page. But it is rather time consuming to read through and then try and link to the whole thing. I even tried coping and pasting but the format used does not itself well.

Although from the uk i still voted no for this bill on govit i also posted it on my facebook for all to read and vote. I think this is a sick bill what gives us(man) the power to restrict the species of anything that has been around for longer than we have????? Its ludicrous..

If you feel that HR669 is unfair then take a moment to write a letter to our president letting him know exactly how this bill will negatively effect your business/hobby.

Here is another idea that will help. I am attaching a post from another site that I use. I personally have already got 25 people from my job to sign and address these 22 letters each to be sent to this guy. All you have to do is go to the link, print the 22 letters, address them each then place each in an individually addressed envelope. Then place all of this in a large manila envelope and send to the address below. He will hand deliver them so that they get there in time. Imagine the statement this will make when they have stacks of these letters on their desks from people like you and me. Here is the link.

http://theboaphile.com/669.doc/

Here is the person that all letters must be mailed to .He is hand delivering them in person.
Dead line is April 21st. If you mail any out Monday it must be overnighted to him.

The guys at work that signed and addressed these for me don't even like reptiles so if they are willing to do this then everyone on here and their friends should be willing. It doesn't cost that much to do your part. Please do what you can. I don't sell or breed reptiles but I do own several and love them very much. Thanks for your time and I hope you try this with me.
