OT: New Cage

BROWNSBOAS Apr 08, 2009 12:16 PM

Just thought I would share the new cage I built for two of my monitors. 7.5'L 28"D each cage is 24" tall! The lizards seem to like them!

And a Boa to stay on topic!

Al no disrespect...but monitors need borrows.. deep dirt with lots of room to roam..thats just how it is..I spent 5-6 years messing with monitors..and FR is the best keeper in the USA..I'm sure you have been to KS monitor forum..its rough but you can learn.
Heres a few..when I was a keeper.

and a boa picture..

I live in TN would love to keep them outdoors, but climate just doesn't allow it! Thanks for the insite that I already knew! My guys are happy and seem to be enjoying. They are just pets and we enjoy them a-lot! Just threw the Aspen in with them since I didn't have any cypress on hand! Some folks on here just get so darn technical sometimes!!!

Wow, You people are WAY to nice! Nice cage, just not quite up to par with todays varanid husbandry!

From what I read on that fact sheet I'm right on par! I have pulled the Aspen out added a 8" tall litter dam and buried half a small dog crate in each cage and created multiple basking spots! I also filled the cage with fine shreded cypress mulch! I like them and the lizards seem to like them too! Sorry your not impressed!

Sorry? No need to apoligize. Besides maybe you can do better on the next go round as those cages will only last a few months IF they are providing what the lizards need. My intent was not to attack you , but to let others know that keep varanids like snakes does not work. And from the looks of the pics you posted thats exactly the way it seemed! Open screen top, aspen shavings,no hide spots...can you see how it was misleading? If you think I was a bit harsh try posting that pic in the monitor forum, but I imagine you knew that already and that why you shared it in the Boa forum amoungst all your peers(friends).

Have a nice day...and good luck with your Albigs.
