Retic/Dwarf Retic question

SimplyRed Apr 08, 2009 09:16 PM

I'm interested in getting back into snakes after a break of a couple years. I previously kept ball pythons and one GTP. Am interested in a snake thats roughly the same size range as a ball (under 10 ft) that can be relatively social and is not an advanced species to keep (hence I ruled out rainbow boas immediately, I think their temp and humidity needs are beyond me). Wondering if a dwarf retic fits my needs, and if it possibly does, can someone point me at some good websites for info, or good breeders. Google got me a bunch of nothing helpful, and the only big names I remember are places like NERD which just have basic care sheet info. Any help? Thanks!

are you looking to get into breeding dwarves/superdwarves? or just as a "pet"? as stated prehistoric pets, mike wilbanks at constrictors unlimited, kevin at nerd, should have some nice dwarves, bob clark usually has some. steve gooch in oklahoma, breeds only dwarf retics, as far as i know

Just as a pet, I will only own one I am sure. My thing is more ball pythons but the bf wants to get into snakes and likes the retics colors and patterns better, so if possible I'd like to make it happen for him. I will look up those names you mentioned, thanks!

Oops, another question. Does the super dwarf come in different patterns, like would I be able to get a tiger cross that will stay under 10 ft? And can someone help me understand the difference between the jampea and the dwarf/super dwarf? I don't like the more muddied color, I like the crisp and contrast that are like the normal sized normals... do super dwarfs come in colors like that?

the superdwarves pretty much have the same look and pattern. the way you get the super clean and crisp colors, patterns, etc, is very careful selective breeding. the jampea dwarf retic gets fairly good size, roughly 11-12ft for males and 12-14 and up to 15ft or so for females. they have different types of dwarves and superdwarves now, such as tiger, albino, fire, etc.

just for your info, the size i gave for the jamps are in no way in stone, i have seen males as small as 8ft at 5yrs old, and females as big as almost 16ft at just over 3yrs
