Pink color in shed??

Dpoling Apr 09, 2009 12:13 PM

My BRB shed the other day and there was this bright almost fluorescent pinkish color, about 4 inches, towards the tail on the shed. I use shredded cypress mulch and don't have anything that color in my enclosure. I can put a pic up later.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
...I have seen Cypress mulch as it comes off the logs at mills. It is nice looking stuff but usually not as colorful as what is sold as cypress mulch in stores. My bet is that some of the cypress mulch products contain dye to make them look prettier. Pink or red skin can also occur if the snake gets a minor chemical burn from acidic urates in cages. In my opinion ALL substrates should be changed or cleaned very often.
