Still need help & advise on agression

Omnivorous Apr 11, 2009 01:11 AM

I asked for some advise a couple weeks ago but I am still haveing problems. I had moved my one and only male leopard gecko to a MCBL tub in preparation for some new leos I am getting. First he is the only male in the house at this time. That will change in a couple weeks but for now there are no other males. This guy before I moved him was the most gentile and calm leo I had. He would chill on you and not move much. He basicaly stayed in his hide all the time and hardly ever came out. When I first put him in the tub I had some dividers seperateing the tubs so the ocupants could not see eachother. He has become verry agressive. He is almost always out of his hide looking over at the female in the tub next to him. He gets really angry and trys to bite you if you stick your hand in the tub to change water, mealworm dish or whateer. He immediatly starts following you around and if your hand is in there too long he will attack. I can sneak up behind him and grab him from behind. If I do that he wont bite but if you touch him w/o picking him up he will bite. I am not sure if its a issue with his sight. He doesnt hunt that well and misses more than he hits. Originaly when I asked for help I was told either he is getting used to his new enclosure or that I should remove the dividers because he is possibly confused and cant tell if its a male or female next to him. I did that but I think that kind of made it worse. He is verry aware of the female next to him and the female sometimes seeems to be checking him out too. Its been several weeks and the behavior remains. I put back the dividers. Any help would be appreciated. Is this somethign his behavior is going to always stay at? He had made a drastic change in behavior and attidude.

just put him in a entirely different enclosure. He is probably just "excited". I really do not think that he would bite you if you put your hand in there. Some of my geckos look like they will bite you but they never will. Plus if he does bite you its not going to hurt.

Its not an issue of me thinking he is going to hurt me. I have put him in a different enclosure. It has been weeks for him to adjust. He cant see any females although I dont know if he can smell them. He does bite though. Occassionaly he is calm where I can do my business with his setup like changeing things, adding water, mealworms & such but 90% of the time he comes out ready to fight. I will even be cleaning a tank or something that is below him or just come by and not even open his tub and he will charge at me snapping & biteing the wall trying to get to me.
