Vipera ammodytes X Vipera xanthina Cross

yasin1 Apr 11, 2009 02:08 AM

Hello,

Does anybody know of any Vipera hybrids? Especially between V.ammodytes and V.xanthina?

Here is a little video of my V.ammodytes male trying to mate with my Vipera xanthina female.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAZ6opgNX0E

And here is the story behind it:

My original intention was to use V.ammodytes male to excite my V.xanthina male so that he could breed my other two Vipera xanthina girls, however my possible male turned out to be a female and now I have three female Vipera xanthina and a male Vipera ammodytes. The male was so anxious for some action so I am letting him try to breed the V.xanthina. As far as I am aware, there are no xanthina X ammodytes hybrids around so I do not know if the breeding attempt will be successful. The females do not look really interested anyway. Time will tell...

Hi Yasin,
I accidently had similar happen. I used a male xanthina to combat with a male ammo to spark breeding with my fem' ammo'.

The Fem' ammodytes prefered the male xanthina and I think they hooked up. Nothing ever came of it

Cheers,
Al

Thanks for the info mate.

When you switch males and females, sometimes the situation changes. In my case xanthina is female and ammo is male so it is a tad different. I am going to keep my fingers crossed .

Indeed it is different, it'll be interesting to see if you do get some hybrids

All the best,
