Congrats on getting a well tempered one! Hopefully it's not sick! That is a joke, only because my nile is the spawn of satan. He upgraded to a new level of hatred this week: He used to run and hide any time I would open the top to the enclosure, NOW instead of hiding he stands his ground; He will actually leap of off objects in the cage in an attempt to bite me or whip me telling me to get the f away! until I close the top. Even for like basic water cleaning and stuff. He is about a foot long and I love em!
ANYWAY as far as feeding- play it by ear I would say. See how much food he will take, Then feed smaller amounts everyday which is better than feeding large amounts over a longer period. It's kind of like binge eating or chain smoking lol. I feed mine (and like I said he is still SMALL) about 3 or 4 fuzzies a day then as much crickets as he can eat (50?) about every other day or at least twice a week. Some times I will throw in some super worms to mix it up a bit.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Another question - it is missing 2 claws, and the tip of the tail. Will those grow back eventually? I am thinking of getting a black throat this summer, any specific place you would go?
Monitors do not grow those back unfortunately. I have been looking for a blackthroat (or white throat) too. I would just try to find one CBB and avoid anything wild caught and if that is not made public ask, and if it is cheap and you ask and they say it is CBB they are lying and then you should call them names and curse at them. Ha! but seriously you pay a little more for a CBB but it is worth it. I am also going to build an enclosure before I get the monitor so that is another reason I have not yet acquired one. Also I need to get a 'real job' so I can afford to feed it too!
Good luck!

Hi,
Just a little techincal question:
Do you have room for 2 10X10 feet enclosures?
Because that is the minimum you will need if you want to set these animals up properly. Don't expect them to sit in the same cage. Do you have the money to buy 6-20 big rats a week? Cause that is what they will eat for 20 years or more...
