Do timor monitors require UV light or is dusting prey with D3 sufficient? Could anyone point me in the direction of a quality care sheet for this species?
Thanks

Do timor monitors require UV light or is dusting prey with D3 sufficient? Could anyone point me in the direction of a quality care sheet for this species?
Thanks
The best care sheet will be found right here, in the archives. Just search through and find the timor posts, lots of skilled keepers on here. I am not one of them however (skilled) but I DO have a timor! I keep a UVB and 2 basking lamps and I dust the crickeys. The UVB mainly because I could; I had a spare 6 footer lying around so I put it on. It won't hurt but I don't think it is completely necessary. Here is a pic of my setup. My guy is still a baby at about 7 inches, I have had him for about 4 months I would say.

Timors can be kept more or less like any other monitor. That is [A] what I have heard and my own somewhat limited experience with the four juveniles I am currently raising. The main differences are that timors do not require such enormous cages as the giant monitors and that they are reclusive and timid, so they will appreciate lots of cover and you respecting their space and not disturbing them. Two of mine are now at the point where they tolerate me within a meter or two of the enclosure, but that's only after a couple months of building trust by not handling them or bothering them in any way. Two of my timors are watching as I type this - one has an endearing habit of hiding in a hollow log and sticking his head out of a hole in the top - he's doing that right now, investigating me with a curious eye as I write about him.
Best of luck,
Luke
