HR669 - Another Idea

ArtInScales Apr 12, 2009 04:26 PM

I was trying to think of other ways I could do more to get the word out and get more support in defeating this proposal. I felt that just telling people about this wasn't enough. Given the fact that we have such little time to act, I simply copied the sample letter into a word document and sent it to a copying company. I asked them to make 1000 copies for me. Within a few hours, these "ready-to-sign" letters were in my hands.

I called the two local reptile stores and asked them for their permission to place these letters in their shops. They were more than willing to help. In one day, I was able to get over 100 signed letters in my hands!!! When they signed the letter, I simply asked them to include their return address as well. This way I can put all of their information on the envelope.

I will be taking on the responsiblity of getting these letters into envelopes and addressed to the subcommittee members. I will send these letters to Tom Wolfe so he can distribute them.

I believe if others do this as well, we can flood the subcommittee members with enough letters to make an impact.

Another idea that you can use is contact the local news paper and the TV stations. The ones in my area had no idea that this was going on. And if you are willing to let them into your house and have the proper setup then they will sometimes do a story. I invited them to my house where I showed them how I safely keep my snakes as well as my speckled caiman. After they saw this and took several pictures and video they said that they were going to run a story. They were impressed with the locks on the cages and the way things were setup. They also got footage of me handling several of the animals.

Good idea! Good for you for takin' things a step further.

It's important that we hit 'em hard in this first round. Any additional rounds we have to go through will make it just that much harder to defeat.

I hope everyone is taking some kind of action on both of the ridiculous proposals facing us. Remember, the Humane Society is not our friend as they're out in full force on these things. I hope all Humane Society leaders are neutered. It's time for a politician neutering program, too.

Later!

I got a message back from several of the politicians that I sent to that simply said that they could not help with anything that did not come from their state as well as a few that would not even accept the e-mail if the zip code was not for their state. One was in Washington State so I used my mothers address to get to them. I received an e-mail back stating the Patty Murry is not part of the comity that is in charge of this but that her vote on HR669 as written would be a no. I felt that even though I had to work to get a message to her it was worth the time to hear that. I also sent a message to President Obama even though I don't hold much hope on any help there. The way I see it is the more that we pester them and voice our opinion the better off we are. I personally don't plan on laying down and letting people walk on me or my scaled friends.

Glad to hear about your efforts and to hear about a no vote.

I think that's the reason USARK got a lobbyist...to be efficient and concentrate efforts where they would be most effective.

Here is another idea that will help. I am attaching a post from another site that I use. I personally have already got 25 people from my job to sign and address these 22 letters each to be sent to this guy. All you have to do is go to the link, print the 22 letters, address them each then place each in an individually addressed envelope. Then place all of this in a large manila envelope and send to the address below. He will hand deliver them so that they get there in time. Imagine the statement this will make when they have stacks of these letters on their desks from people like you and me. Here is the link.

http://theboaphile.com/669.doc/

Here is the person that all letters must be mailed to .He is hand delivering them in person.
Dead line is April 21st. If you mail any out Monday it must be overnighted to him.

The guys at work that signed and addressed these for me don't even like reptiles so if they are willing to do this then everyone on here and their friends should be willing. It doesn't cost that much to do your part. Please do what you can. I don't sell or breed reptiles but I do own several and love them very much. Thanks for your time and I hope you try this with me.
