HR669 - Another Idea

I was trying to think of other ways I could do more to get the word out and get more support in defeating this proposal. I felt that just telling people about this wasn't enough. Given the fact that we have such little time to act, I simply copied the sample letter into a word document and sent it to a copying company. I asked them to make 1000 copies for me. Within a few hours, these "ready-to-sign" letters were in my hands.

I called the two local reptile stores and asked them for their permission to place these letters in their shops. They were more than willing to help. In one day, I was able to get over 100 signed letters in my hands!!! When they signed the letter, I simply asked them to include their return address as well. This way I can put all of their information on the envelope.

I will be taking on the responsiblity of getting these letters into envelopes and addressed to the subcommittee members. I will send these letters to Tom Wolfe so he can distribute them.

I believe if others do this as well, we can flood the subcommittee members with enough letters to make an impact.

i was talking with people at my work, and i had an idea about this idiotic ban. i know, i wouldnt have any problem doing this in order to keep this great hobby of ours alive and well. instead of a ban, they should create a licsensing fee in order to keep, sell, and purchase exotic reptiles. i would think that alot of people would cease to purchase reptiles (especially the burms, retics and other large boids that are being released that is causing a large part of this bill introduction.) also, make it mandatory to microchip all animals by the seller/breeder. that way, if they do sell to a person that does not want it anymore when they cant care for a 15ft snake and "accidentally" lets it go in the wild, when they find it they scan for a microchip, find the owner and find out if the escape was ligit or you fine the owner or community service or whatever. but my thought is that alot of people that know nothing about large boids (particularly) buy them to be cool, and they are cute when first hatched (or born for boas). if you slap, licsensing and registering fees on them, it will eliminate those yahoos that are buying snakes and other exotics for the wrong reason. granted the reptile breeders will take a cut of some sort because the yahoo buyers will not be there, but its better than passing this bill and all of going out of business or not being able to participate in the hobby we hold so dear.
anyway, sorry for the long post just something to consider. i know i would not hesitate one bit to get my snake breeders and hatchlings registered and microchipped to save our great community from this injustice the potentially beholds our future
