so I need help with the right male

chongorojo Apr 12, 2009 10:38 PM

I just got a nice big female ghost motley so she is visual anery hypo motley. Im not sure what would be the optimal male as I do not really breed corns but any way what would you breed her to I don't really want to make more ghost motleys. I want some different things any one have some options/opinions? I have a snow male but . . . Nah?

Its really a matter of opinion but i always say to breed what you are into and not what everyone else is into. but id maybe look for a double het that way you get some variety. Like hets for hypo and anery that way you could still get some normal mots and hypos and anerys and maybe a ghost. but that would be me. good luck this season

If you were to breed her to the snow you'd get:

1/1, Anerythristic, Het for Amel, Het for Hypomel, Het for Motley

But, if you hold back a couple of those offspring and breed them together you'll get as far as phenotypes go:

27/64, Anerythristic
9/64, Anerythristic, Motley
9/64, Ghost
9/64, Snow
3/64, Ghost, Motley
3/64, Snow, Motley
3/64, Snow, Hypomelanistic (masked)
1/64, Snow, Hypomelanistic (masked), Motley

So you do have some potential there. Without knowing what other males you have it is really difficult to suggest something else.

But seriously, go with what you want to do. Don't be afraid to 'play' with the genetics a bit. You might have some real surprises.

I only have the one male snow I have looks to be an 05 but was a rescued by me so I don't know if he is het for anything? I like the anerys so maybe I will quit lookin to buy the "right male" for her and use him and hold back some offspring (which I was NOT gonna do, but . . . anery's het mot, amel and hypo sound really freekin sweet lol). I really specialize in pythons but after rescuing the snow male and amel female I fell in love with them. The "rescue" pair laid 20 on 4/3 all good! The amel het snow female laid 14 on 3/14 . . . . Im excited!!!

There you go, breed her to the snow.
You might get a surprise. You never know.
Do you know if the female has any hets? I wouldn't be surprised if she was het amel at least.
good luck

No unfortunatley I don't know what she is het for what if she is het for amel? Would that make lavendars? I don't even know what makes what for the most part with corn gentics, obviously the easy ones I know like snow, ghost, and I think stripe x motley makes zig zag? Any way thanks for all the heip guys im just not going to do a lot of corns so I spend all my time on ball python genetics . . .wich im really good with all the phenotypes. I added a pick of my project male if he proves the morph will be named sunrise

well, If you breed a gost motley to a snow you would get
anerys het amel het hypo het motley
as you know a ghost motley is anery, hypo, motley
a snow is anery and amel
thats why you would get anerys because both are carrying anery

if your ghost happened to be het amel it would add one more possibility.
You could get anerys het amel het hypo het motley
and snows het hypo het motley

now if you bred them together you could get

anerys het amel possibly het hypo het motley
motley anerys het amel possibly het hypo
snows possibly het hypo het motley
motley snows possibly het hypo
hypo snows possibly het motley
ghosts het amel possibly het motley
motley ghosts het amel
motley hypo snows
