Holy Crap, Orange Racing Stripes

hayseed Apr 13, 2009 06:28 AM

Well I feel like I'm still new here. I've on;y had my Caollared since last August. I had no expectation of any breeding yet as I thought they were still too young. So I wasn't even thinking about it.

But Friday I came home and found my girl Tippy decked out with orange racing stripes!

Holy Crap!

I guess that's alright. I already have geckos, pythons, and corns cooking in the incubators.

Can you answer a few things though?

1. Does red racing stripes actually mean she is gravid? That she has mated?

2. Do Collareds become gravid only after actual mating? Or can the cold winter nap induce egg production regardless?

3. How long after the racing stripes appear might I actually see her laying eggs?

I'll be watching her closely! I posted a few pics...whatever I could get. They were not very happy because I was cleaning the tank and disturbing them. At least I got all the poop and dead crickets out, and some fresh clean sand.

Help!!!!!!!!

I haven't seen any actual copulation, but they have all been very active and seem very happy most of the time. I'm actually still wondering if one of my "girls" might actually be a boy. I'll post some pics of "her" / "him" next. Looks like Tippy is definitely a girl.

Easter eggs cooking?
