im pleased...gen rambling

SnakeCharmer77 Apr 13, 2009 08:42 PM

lol i know most of you are too busy to care about my general ramblings, but screw it- ill post for the sheer fun of posting..lol..
i hope everyone hatches what they hoped for, or gets really great surprises.

i wish i could say that i had a girl ready to pop/eggs hatching. but i didnt get a breeder sized girl until here recently, so ill be in the mix next year- i hope. i got this girl, whom I have named Shadow, from the lady at work. a few of you might remember me asking how hard it might be to switch her over from live to f/t. i was so nervous that i would have to work with her on that. but nope. she ate it like a champ
shes 4-5 yrs old, i am told. and have almost always eaten live. i see a few little scars on her that i dont know if they are from live food or from other reasons, but she seems pretty healthy thus far. i havent had a chance to get pics of her yet as we are just getting used to each other. i hope to get a few on Thursday or so...
for those wondering- i just followed the general new snake practice of letting her be for a few days and then handling her for only a few minutes. and then i gave her a few days to settle and then i handled her again, for only about 5 minutes.trying to let her know that she is safe but not ignored or forgotten. lol
so she had been here for over a week before she got food. she had gone around 3 weeks since her last feed. and boy she was ready. i wiggled the dead rat around like it was shaking with fear. i kind of bumped it on the ground near her a time or so, and another moment of "shaking with fear" and she snapped it. then after i put the lid on i turned the light off and left her undisturbed to eat.

and then...i had noticed my big boy was getting darker, so i gave him extra spritzing, knowing he was going through a shed cycle. sure enough. last night he did a fairly complete shed- a little bit tore from the rest, but the entire body was in one piece. so of course, i took out all the shed and the pooh and fed him tonight. i love the way they feel anyways, but i especially love the way a snake feels after they have shed.
so all the kids are eating, and growing, and seemingly healthy and happy too, i hope.
the little boy, zenith seems to have outgrown his favorite hide box. i think that may be what is producing his bent scales. i have taken it away from him but he has other hide spots. he still fit in it, but it was a tight fit. i will see if i can find or make him one that is slightly bigger.

i wish i had more exciting news that that. but im just happy that everyone is doing well. every day good news is just as good as once in a while good news. LOL..i hope to start getting a few morphs soon, as all of mine seem to be normals. shadow, though, looks more like a axanthic, and butterball i have questioned if he is a yellow belly, but still...all SEEM to be normals. there are a few morphs i hope to start getting...*sigh* i need to win the lottery....lol

as i said....BEST OF LUCK TO ALL...AND GREATEST OF HEALTH TOOOO...

tc and sorry for the long boring post :D

Congrats on getting your new one switched over to frozen/thawed. I bought a big male albino and a female pied around the same time, about the middle of march, and neither one of them would take food (f/t). I figured the bigger male might just not be hungry but the female was only around 400 grams so I knew she must be getting hungry. Then I bought a cinnamon and a breeder het albino female. they both ate within a week and that female was pounding the food she would probably eat 3 times a week if I let her. Meanwhile the the other two still weren't eating so finally after a month of no food when I was about to start trying to offer live, I left each of them a mouse overnight thinking they would still be there the next morning but finally they ate much to my relief. I guess they were just both shy eaters. Now all of mine are doing fine, eating, and getting ready for next season.
