First litter ever last night!

drasticplastic Apr 14, 2009 11:38 AM

I'm pretty excited about my first litter ever last night, and I got to watch the whole thing and even help out momma. Mom is an anery and the father was purchased as a hypo het albino 66% possible het anery. He has now proved to be a triple het. When mom was giving birth there were 2 babies trying to come out at the same time and got stuck so I had to help her with removing them, one had a big belly towards the tail, (pic below) is that unabsorbed yolk? it's soft to the touch. Mom was great, I removed 90% of the babies with her still in the cage and she could care less. Anyway, she gave me 28 live babies and 2 still borns, no slugs..not bad for a first time mom and dad huh? My final count so far is:

5 ghost 50% het albino
4 anery 50% het albino
6 hypo het anery 50% het albino
9 normal het anery 50% het albino

More pics to follow once they shed.

I guess when I was counting them last night I made a mistake and missed 4. She gave me 28 babies but my above post lists 24, back to the snake room!

I missed her POS since she was laying on her shed, her waxy stool was found under her substrate while cleaning out babies, so she hid every sign from me and I was going crazy waiting for these suckers to drop! hah. I have a lot of anxiety issues and get panic attacks almost regularly so it's been hard to keep myself calm in such an exciting time.

CONGRATS!!! First one is always the most exciting. But it only gets better from this point on. Now, I bet you're hooked I love anerys and ghosts. It's my favorite morph. I'm waiting on my own litter of ghosts. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Congrats again. Keep us posted.

Hey Trouble maker... Congrats on your first litter! That is awesome! The excitement never goes away but your counting skills, immediately after finding a litter, will improve with experience! I especially love to see those pictures in the goo in the cage where their Mommy successfully incubated them right under the radiant heat panel! Nice looking cage too by the way!

I appreciate all of your compliments, yes even yours Jeff. hah. Anyway, I got so wrapped up in these guys I forgot about the question I asked about the baby I posted. Toward the tail it has a big lump and it's soft to the touch, is that unabsorbed yolk or should I be concerned? That was the only baby that has a lump like that. Thanks in advance everyone!

First off, congrats on the litter! There's nothing like that feeling.

Secondly, to me, that lump does not look like yolk belly. It looks way too far down the side and the way it is all swollen and red makes me think it's some internal problem? Looks like a cyst or something and does not look normal IMO. I was hoping more people would chime in on that part...

how is that snake acting otherwise? Best bet would be to take to a vet, otherwise you could either cull it or wait and see.

Good luck and congrats on the other little ones!

Unfortunately I'm at work and won't be able to check on the snake for another 2 hours. I will post back and update and maybe try and get more pictures as well.

boaphile Apr 14, 2009 07:18 PM

Give it the option of resting on a warm place that is 90 or 91 degrees. It will probably be OK. Sometimes really washed out or Hypo Boas with the big yolk belly look really reddish or pink as you see though the skin. It is in a very strange location though. Farther down than normally you'd see it. All the babies should have that warm area available if their bellies look big at all that is. They need to heat to avoid that yolk solidifying.

Good luck and quit trying to cause so much trouble all the time!

Congrats again!

I picked him up from Greg Reinert a few years back. I want to say he's an 06 also but I don't have easy access to my paperwork at the moment. Same litter maybe?

Morgans Boas Apr 15, 2009 06:56 AM

Nice - you'll have to show him off sometime. Congrats again, David

Yes that is the male I got from you a few years back. M5 if I remember correctly. A big thank you for him too!! Of course I'm happy he proved out for me, I have him with an albino female now, and next year he's going to be paired up with a female anery het albino. (if all works out of course) Thanks again!
