Got a call from my neighbor to come get the rattlesnake out of his backyard. When I got there, it was gone, but found this guy underneath a nearby rock.

Where he saw the 'rattlesnake' was in a burrow near his pool, right off his patio.

So, after opening up the hole a little bit, I found these.

About 5' away from them, was a big-fat Texas Spiny Lizard, hiding underneath his portable fire pit.

Originally thought they were eggs from the rough earth snake, but later learned they are live-bearing. (Texas Snakes, Alan Tennant- Thanks Toddy!)

I LOVE Texas!!!

Show me the spiny!!! How cool is it to have snakes and lizards bearing live young AND laying eggs in your back yard!!?

Didn't snap a picture of her, but she looked exactly like this one:

Spiny eggs if I agree.... Incubate 84 degrees mild moisture about 1.5 distilled water to 1 vermiculite, preferably medium to course grain vermiculite 50 days and walla!!! Cap lid and uncap every day and wave the top cover over the eggs so they breath...
Nice size glad container is best, push down the corners but not the whole lid.....

Beauty- thanks for that!

Scooped a butt-ton of the soil mama laid them in, mixed in with some potting soil and peat moss for now in a smallish glad container.

Will pick up the other ingredients tomorrow- thanks!

Found one of those a little over an hour ago, was oddly fat & slow. But I don't think it was about to give birth. BTW, it was the biggest Virginia I've seen yet, over a foot long.
