Substrate

Herpguy24 Apr 16, 2009 07:09 AM

I was jw is it necessary to have a substrate in my Red Tail Boa's enclosure? I hear lots of people use paper towels, and to me the only difference between a paper towel and having none at all is the paper towel's are easier to clean

Also, if it's not too much trouble to answer another question of mine, I keep finding this white stuff along his back. Any ideas?

Not necessary for the substrate, I use newspaper. Got pics of the
white stuff on his back? Maybe sperm plugs??

yeah it does look like dust. But it washes off when he gets in the water. And I have had to deal with mites in the past, but I thought I had gotten rid of them. I will try again thanks

It could also be dried urates. He may have crawled through it which they do from time to time, especially if there is no substrate (I wasn't clear if you were using substrate or not).

Hope it's not mites! They are such a pain.

Good luck,
April
