What kind of garter?

Got a late call last night to remove a snake from this guys backyard.

I haven't seen ANY checkered garters up here in Austin- loads out west and south, but never here in central TX.

Maybe a young black-neck, but the more I look at it, the more it looks like a checkered to me.

What do you guys think?

Todd, I posted this on the other site, but this in my humble opinion is a checkered as you say, and indeed they do range into Central Texas. Nice find!! I have found these in Medina County many times.....Cheers!!!

Checkered for sure, they are the largest ranging garter in Texas I believe.
