Eye Prob?

snakeeyes1618 Apr 17, 2009 02:51 PM

I have 2 leos. I have had them for 4 years and have always done great. I have them in custom cages, where the temps range from 90 basking to 70 on the cool side. They both have humidity chambers with wet papertowels and moss. I used to use sand as a substrate, but due to the latest problems I am having I have since just put in tiles and fish gravel.

My probelm is this; Both of them are not opening their eys. I have been using saline solution on thier eyes trying to ge them to open them and keeping them moist....when i do get them to open them they are red and puss filled.

Is there anyhting i can do? Or is the vet the only option i have?

Thanks

My leo had the same problem. He's about five years old, and I had him on a sand substrate as well. After a week of his left eye being shut, I moved him out and onto tile. It stayed closed for close to a month later, but since then there haven't been any complications. My guess would be the sand, but I cannot be certain. I do know I wont be moving him back to it any time soon, or at all... Not a good answer, but I hope everything works out for you!
