mice breeder thoughts

Mice breeders… how long is it taking you guys to see litters when you set up a new colony from scratch (weaned teenagers)? Mine gain size quickly but take forever to be productive pan for some reason. I've used mazurri 5m30 and breeder formula with no change.

My stats seem comparable to what I read about university lab websites, except this one. Maybe sexual maturity and productivity are two different things.

Thoughts appreciated

from time I set them up it takes about 4 weeks....they are usually about 4 weeks when I set them up or more .....so 8 week old?......I usually get good results., at times a tank will not produce at all, and they all get fed off, if I catch it quick enough I try and give it a new male, .......babies pulled at 17 day average.....

i had a group that i lost the male ,didnt know it till that tray didnt produce,so i added a male and that colony is a PRODUCER!may be good to give the girls extra time as with reptiles and advanced mammals

See, I always thought that this result was from a more useful and interested male, rather than a rest for the girls. Mice especially don't seem to do with a break....especially since it is so deucedly hard to add a male after a group is established. Now with rats I find moving the boys around is very helpful in kicking production....they get bored and lazy in one group.

Hey Jeff, I have poor records but i did a hairless mouse project that i introduced young adult virgin w/ hair females to the hairless male on 12/12/09 produced hets (sorry no date ) but the hets droped pinks this week..approx 3 mos for second generation progeny maybe you can do the math (i can barely type LOL) remembering 21 days gestation period per litter x2
