Update on my egg bound eastern

Eric East Apr 18, 2009 08:48 PM

As of this morning all of the eggs are finally out!:D

A new egg would move to the vent every few days but she was never able to pass them, so we began aspirating them. All in all we had to aspirate 5 eggs, it sux but sure beats loosing the female!
She has eaten 2 small meals since this all began and seems to be doing well but I will certainly be giving her a year off from breeding. Hopefully in a couple of seasons she will be ready to go.

I wouldn't breed her again.

I'd give her a year or two off. Give her a nice and big cage and lots of calcium and D3.

I'm really sorry to hear that Eric. I was really rooting for you for her to pass them all successfully. How many viable did you end up getting? I hope those go well for you. We need more Dry keepers here in AR!!

As much as I would love to breed indigos, stories like these make me want to shy away from the effort.

Chance,

I have 3 good looking eggs & God willing they'll all hatch!
Are you going on the AHS trip this weekend?

Unfortunately no I'm not. I have to work Saturday and it's just too far of a drive to make it worthwhile otherwise. Are you going? If so, have a great time!

And good luck with those eggs!! If you hatch all females and are willing to let any go, maybe I'll have the money to spare. The idea of having a pair I'd just toooooo tempting.

Yes, i'm going. What do you mean too far? It should only be a couple of hours.
As for the eggs, i'm not going to count my chickens (indigos) before they hatch. I'm hoping for at least one nice red throat female to hold back for myself.
If all goes well, i'd be glad to sell you one. Intra-state sales are certainly preferred. Of course we can't make any deals here in this forum.

We had a great time and saw lots of herps. Off the top of my head we found Amphibs: marbled & slimy sallies, a newt. Bull, leopard, pickerel, cricket and green tree frogs. Reptiles: Sliders, gators, ribbon snakes, speckled kings, black rats, diamond back waters snakes, broadbanded water snakes, black racers, copper heads, cotton mouths, and a big probably gravid timber rattlesnake.
