please help, scarlet king not eating

drmotorhead Apr 19, 2009 12:19 AM

A scarlet king, approx 16 inches long, showed up in my garage last week. I picked him up and have him in a proper cage. I have made three attempts to feed him pinkes in the last week. twice in his cage and once by letting him crawal around in a confined room and "find" his food. All attemps unsuccessful. I am about to release him. I would rather not. Kids love him and he is a great pet. Any suggestions? Thanks

proper cage........? as in (descibe)

they prefer like semi-moist bedding lots of hides and easy low water dish.......at least aspen or cypress to dig around and hide in and some hides, natural hides not plastic....

they also want different mice, Peromyscus mice work great,(baby russian or chinese hamsters maybe even)...lizards are also what they prefer....they can be a pain...

I got 4 onetime , wild, all ate right away...but only one ate domestic mice and the other three started off on Peromyscus......two switched later but that one just wouldn't switch......one laid eggs the next year after brumation....and all were sold that year....the babies were just soooo small....(one of three of them ate and the guy that got them killed all three babies actually )...

...so.......what setup?....and where are you located?.....
