tail tip ques

fliptop Apr 19, 2009 06:32 AM

My little male kingsnake has what I think is a bit of his tail tip about to come off from I'm guessing a bad shed of yore (see pic as best I could get). It seems to be actual tail, not a piece of shed.

My question is (to anyone who's had a similiar situation): If this tip come off, will he end up with a stubby tail, or is this case so slight it won't be noticeable?

Thanks!

Im guessing this wouldnt just happen after one bad shed?

only i had to go to my friends house only 3 days ago as his female rat snake had a similar problem.

she had a small amount of skin left on the end of her tail which was still there after her second shed which had started building up and becoming tight.

so i had to go and remove it once removed everything underneath was fine.

If this is the tail dropping off as a result of bad shed i would say for it to get that bad then it must have been quiet a few sheds since the first bit of skin was left....

This is just my opinion therefore i think you will need some proper advice of some of the more experienced guys on here.....

IF the tail tip is dead, it will fall off...you don;t have to do anything or worry...keep an eye on it from now on and try not to let it happen to other stuff ....

I have taken scissors and cut off more than one tip of a tail......healed fine...

(like I said...it will fall off or heal on it's own, don't go grabbing scissors....)...

Thanks! I actually just picked him up yesterday, so it wasn't me It's really slight, practically unnoticeable. I was just worried as I've never had a nubby tail before and wasn't certain what to do in this situation. So thanks for the peace of mind.

That could be a symptom of a few different things. Also, it could spread down the tail.

If it changes in any way I would see a vet.
