As the temperatures are getting warmer here in maine, herps are starting to come out. Infact I caught a garter crossing a path at my schools sport fields. Today as it is very warm i wanted to do some field herping and find some more garters. were should i look for these guys?

Here in PA a lot of them seem to winter over in the banks of streams. On the first few warm days it's easy to find them sunning on branches and piles of debris along creeks. Also walk through the woods and listen for them of the leftover dry leaves.

under trash in these areas
where water is present in these areas is better
look for old trash places, toppled buildings and lots of debris laying around....

......as they said...hanging around wood piles and along streams even.......

.....some areas are full of them and some are not....like fish....90% of all fish are in 10% of the area.....(in a given place)....

thanks guys, i went out today and i caught a little baby eastern garter. it was only about 4.5-5.5 inches, when do you think it was born?

last year/summer

some garters are born three times bigger than others...or I guess three times smaller than others you could say....mother's size, number of babies all make a difference...age too....I have seen 8 babies that were normal and 18 almost the same size from smaller garters though....rambling again....

some get alot to eat and some don't also......
