Babies! 3/8 Suriname laddertail albinos

RoswellBoa Apr 19, 2009 05:12 PM

Woke up to find Stella just starting to push out the first baby...

The litter looked to be about half laddertail/connected pattern, and half normals...

This girl is a 2003 50% Suriname het albino (the larger female from the trio I got from Todd Smith in 2007), who was the mother of last year's Roswell litter. Dad is an unrelated 25% Suriname het produced by Steve at BoaMorph...the male comes from a fantastic coral line...I have a feeling a few of those albinos will color up nicely

That's what it is looking like, Ash...I'll be holding back males from this litter, to breed back to mom or the aunt, to see if Roswells will show up...

Thanks everyone!

I am really happy with the way this litter turned out...the new blood seems to have made for a very strong group of babies. One albino has a bit of a yolk belly, but all the others appear to be doing fine.

The final count looks to be:

3 normal albino
3 laddertail albino

8 normal 66% hets
9 laddertail 66% hets

2 indeterminate (have the connected pattern, but missed on the laddertail)

So disregarding the albino gene, there were:

11 normal appearing

12 laddertail/connected pattern

2 connected pattern with normal tails

Peaks!!

Check out that sidestripe!

This laddertail has some amazing color

One of the laddertail albinos has a big belly, and is not very active...so I don't know if it will make it. But all the others seem to be doing fine...I'll get some individual pics and genders up in a few days...

There really are some great patterns and variation among these kids...

The normal albinos this time around seem to have much sharper pattern and contrast than the albino laddertails...will be interesting to compare the 6 albinos after they shed...

This is most of them...toward the end, mom got pretty defensive...so there are two, possibly 3 normals still in with her. She nearly bit and mowed over one of the babies trying to bite me...so for the moment, I'm leaving her be, until they move closer to the front where I can grab them safely.

Big Congrats, Heather!! Those babies look great. Good luck with the future of this project. I'm curious to see if your Roswells are compatible with the Motley pattern. Very interesting future ahead.

Great job with this pair, and congrats again on your new wigglies.

Congrats Heather. It looks like you have the gene figured out. Do you have any plans to breed a Sunglow, Motley, Arab, Jungle, anything het Albino, etc. to one of your double het Albino Roswell mothers next year? I can't wait to see more combos with your new morph!

RoswellBoa Apr 20, 2009 02:25 AM

I do hope to get the hypo gene into this project...I think a sunglow striped version would be outstanding.

I'm also curious at some point, to see if the Motley gene might be compatible with the laddertails, considering the similarity between the SuperMotleys and Roswells...
