WC Texas Rats

mattkau Apr 19, 2009 10:24 PM

Here are some pics of my new texas rats. I'm not sure if they are a pair, haven't probed them yet. They are both over six feet in length, but not the prettiest snakes in the world. I guess it's an acquired taste. I caught the one in the first pic basking on top of a wood duck nest box about seven feet up on a tree, on Easter sunday. I got the one in the second pic along a very large home made cage from a guy that lives in my area. It was also wild caught here in Calcasieu Parish, La. Surprisingly, they don't show much aggression, only a tail vibration here and there.

Yeah, thanks Jason. After you left my girlfriend didn't like it in the living room(I kind of agreed with her). I was able to take the top off and queeze it into the little bathroom and reassemble it. I put some big branches in there which they seem to enjoy. I also cut a hole in the lid of that tupperware container you brought the snake over in and they both use it as a hide.

By their size, I would guess that they are both males. Nice looking animals. Thanks for sharing.

I'd say at least one is a male (tail shape) and the other looks like the "body shape" of a male, too....HOWEVER, I've caught some extremely LARGE females in that area - along with other sites along southern Louisiana - that don't rul out even the largest one you've got being a girl. Besides, don't trust my sexing based on coiled images.....lol.

Matt,

I'm glad Jason found a home for that big rat! If you're other one is that easy going you're lucky!

We all need to go herping sometime when I'm down there.
