Okay people PEOPLE with larger collections. i have a question or two for you herpetoculturists.

How many times will a single male King breed in a 2 week period to multiple females? How many can he inseminate in a short period?

Is there a few days waiting period for a male to build up enough sperm after fully fertilizing a female?

I had a lone male copulate to as many as 4 females in a 3 week period. But it was a huge male Florida king with about 5 years of age on him. This year i have unique situation where i would like to breed a male to as many females as possible without missing that window of opportunity the female has for fertilization.. Thing is these are small (young'07 FLORIDANA )so i wonder how prolific young male Florida kings are?

This is mainly a question for FR and anyone else with libido problems...hopefully he will chime in!

seriously....that is about a good answer...they will breed as many as you like...
how many will be good breedings and take?....(I know, that's what you want).....I think 4 is fine...one a day and you'll be good....millions of sperm a day are made by us....snakes have to make at least 10...that's all you need.....(OK...I stop, 10,000 at least???....).......

go for it....

(corns, few years ago...Rich Z had a male he used for 20 girls all in a small time window...I think he used him on more than one a day at least a few times....(I have used males on more than one girl a day) (and three males on one girl in a day)...

i dont beleive there is a "window" to miss, females will ovulate under ANY condition throughout the year. personally i feel too much is played into the once a year/season window theory.
also FTR ive had males service 5 girls within a 3 week time w/o probs.

p.s. my l.g.nigra laid 7 good eggs today sorry no pics but i'll post pics of hatching she bred with a pueblan milk this year

I am looking at getting more than one clutch out of a female per year.

I am taliking about the first cluthes after a females shed in the first part of spring. I don't want clutches a month later. Tey might miss their second or third clutches because Fall is approaching.

Reminds me of an old joke: A young and old bull are standing on a hillside over looking a herd of cows. The young bull says, "what do you say about us running down there and breeding a few of those cows?" to which the old bull say, "what do you say to us walking down there and breeding them all?"

Point is I would think that your answer would depend on the age, health and experience of the male. First time males can be slow starters but given a few years (perhaps its familiarity with the females) they seem to get the job done quicker.

Assuming its a younger male, if you wanted to use him more widely perhaps you could stager bringing the females to breeding condition. Of course that opens up the can-o-worms about how you're keeping them.

How 'bout this one...put him with his mate from last year, get him familiarized again, set him up with #2, I'd go with your list of what you want most to least, stagger him 12 hour shifts, repeat. He'll be a needing that viagra so don't bogart it all, lol! Get them all some of those his/her lotions as well! Seriously, if I had more thayeri girls ready this year, Walt would have gone 4 times, 2 days for each, one day off then back again. Next year hold back a few more male pewters!!!
