Sexing Corn snakes?

m27 Apr 21, 2009 01:00 AM

Hello everyone; I am primarily a Sand boa, Rosy boa, and Ball python person, but I randomly decided to ask to handle two Corn snakes that were at a reputable local pet store recently. I was immediately charmed by them both, and after considering it for a week, I decided to purchase them and just picked them up today. While I am very proficient at sexing the species I currently keep, I know that with Colubrids it can be a little different. I may have a friend of mine who keeps Corns come over next month and help me with probing them, but in the mean time I was wondering if someone here would be able to provide an educated guess on their gender, or are they a species that guessing based on tail length even applies to?

Here are pictures of them both.

(Sorry for the blurriness)

Thank you so much; I truly do appreciate it.

Kathy Love has a video segment on her website. Go to the "classifieds" button, click that and go to Cornutopia. Click the enter button and go to "4 sale." Scroll down a ways and you will find a link to the videos. I am a visual learner and it is easier to do something after I see it.
The video will show two ways to find the sex of you snakes. One when they are babies and another when they are adults. Good luck.

What I meant to say was go to the "business" button. Everything else is the same.

Hello; just thought I'd report that I just successfully sexed both Corns; my 'Normal' is a female, and my Motley is a male.

Thank you so much to Dave15run for pointing those videos out to me; they were really helpful!
