Breeding/Blood?

Br8knitOFF Apr 21, 2009 07:50 AM

This is my first-ever crack at breeding anything, and I've got my southern pine pair together.

I left them alone for a couple days, and upon checking on them last night, found them snug as a bug inside one of their hides, but noticed a significant amount of what looks like blood inside the box with them.

Checked them both out, and I don't see any blood anywhere on them, including each others cloaca.

I'm worried that the male may have severed one of his hemi's or something, or something happened with the shredded aspen in the throws of ecstasy.

I got my nose up pretty close to these spots and they have very little, if any odor...

I'm HOPING this is a semi-common occurrence...

Thanks guys,
//Todd

I know some snakes can excrete blood at will, maybe one of them was scared of the other at first and it was a defensive thing, or maybe...he popped her cherry!

Nothing to be alarmed about as long as the bleeding has stopped. It just confirms you had at least one hookup. Many snake species have hemipenes which feature some nasty-looking spines, and these sometimes get hung up as a a couple are trying to disengage from a lock.
