Dry Food for Cyclura Mazuri and others

twylin Apr 22, 2009 12:21 AM

My 6 month old Grand Cayman Hybrid from D. Blair had a taste of the dry food and won't switch back to his greens. I was wondering if anyone had this problem. I was gone for a week and had used Mazuri tortoise food mix with other dry iguana food as his diet. Now I try to feed him kale and other greens but he just won't eat. Also is it not a good idea to just feed him the dry food. I read in the iguana manual that it's not ideal to only feed them dry food. Would there be long term effects if he doesn't switch back to greens?

some people only feed mazuri ad nothing else. i like to feed greens and mazuri just keep giving him greens soon hell get real hungry and eat them. u can try and entice him by putting some cut up strawberries on top or bananas. give it some time.

My green iguana will eat anything I put in his dish no matter what kind of food I buy for the week because I don't give a hoot what he thinks. If he doesn't eat them, he'll go hungry. So now he knows and will eat anything I put in there for him. You should try it.

Mine love dry food. I feed them very little of it or thats all they will eat. They also like a little dog food I give for treats. Not much just a little. They will follow you all over the yard for some.
I think you just need to back off of it for awhile and only feed once in awhile. It works good if you go one vacation for a few days etc... or if you don't have any fresh food available.
I think its good to teach them to eat it, but not everyday.

Just my 2 cents.
