If I'm not mistaken....I don't think that it's illegal to ship one in, but it is illegal for someone to have a corn in Georgia due to their state laws. I think that's how it is written. Kinda screwy.
It is a violation of the Lacey Act (a federal law) to ship an animal into a state in which that animal is illegal to possess. So yes it could be a serious violation!

Thanks for clearing that one up.
For the most part it is illegal to ship corns into, out of or posses them in Georgia UNLESS you have an educational permit to own them. OR unless you are a pet wholesaler that has the appropriate permits and paperwork. There are a few pet wholesalers in the Atlanta area that legally receive and ship corns (many other native non venomous)on a regular basis.
Hope this helps.

I think that in Ga you can own corns just cant sell them. I do remeber reading and I sdont have the book that when Dr Bern Betchel produced off spring from the first amel he could not sell them but gave them to a few breeders. If i remeber correctly as well Bill Love has family in Ga he took his nephews field herping to SC. thinks I read that in Reptiles. Anyway I will do some research and find out and post when I find it.

I don't keep up on this stuff, but last time I checked, it was not legal to possess a corn unless you had a state issued permit. I have shipped to many GA residents that had the exhibition permit to own them.
I think the law is incredibly stupid. There may well be more corns than fleas in that state. I'm sure it's okay to chop their heads off and drop bricks on their heads, but don't try to keep one healthy in a cage. Aaaarrrggghhh.

Thanks. I'm not a big breeder, but have other reptile related business and didn't want to jeopardize anything I had going on....
I talked with the persons in charge of regulation on several occasions. The law in Georgia is actually written on a specific level so technically you can not own any Obsoleta, Getula, Pituophis, Pantherophis, Elaphe ......unless it is an officially recognized species like Pituophis Ruthveni for example. This applys to hybirds AND morphs. If you hybridize a Northern Pine and Ruthveni, that progeny can not be legally owned in Ga without a permit from the state. Kathy's web site says you can own Amel Emoryi in Georgia but that is not true. It may not be enforced but it is still illegal unless you have the permit. A pet store in Milledgeville was busted and forced to get rid of their 50/50 cal king hatchling because they were reported. No fines were issued but they had to get rid of the animal.
That said, DNR will tell you that the rule of thumb is if your collection were to be searched, if the DNR officials can look at an animal and tell it is not a native non venomous then it is ok. The example they gave was not a great one but here it is "Mexican Milks look alot like Scarlet Kings, it would be hard for one of my guys to know the difference unless he knows alot about snakes. You might could show them the differences but there is no need to take the chance"
Hope that helps, good luck and be careful not to tick off your neighbors or other snake people.
