Baby Leo Concerns

ShaunDuke Sep 12, 2003 05:10 PM

My baby Leo, Alwen a gorgoeous little Pastel, is concerning me. She's eating maybe 2 mealies a day at most, sometimes she barfs them back up and eats another, but thats really only sometimes.
Anyway, I can't really tell if she is loosing weight, but I know she hasn't gained any. At this point I would think she would have grown a bit, we've had her for about 2 months I think, maybe longer. She was one of the ones at the local pet store that they said was having trouble and she suddenly started coming back and eating well and everything and she did look a lot better from the first time we saw her.

What sort of common ailments affect Leo's? I was thinking it could be coccidia, but then again, my beardie who had it I was beyond careful with. I didn't touch anything from her cage unless my hands were washed. If she has it I really doubt she'd make it through, and I love the little girl, she's so pretty. Gorgeous little eyes too.

Anywho, any thoughts would be nice. I'll probably take a sample in to the vet, and if she has coccidia I don't know what to do. She's a baby, what could her chances be?...

I would suggest you having a fecal done on her. Coccidia or other parasites could be one of the cause. Have you tried feeding her crickets instead? Some of my geckos would not touch mealies so it could be she's being picky with her food. You mentioned she is vomiting her food, how warm are you keeping her cage? Is the temperature consistent 24 hours a day or do you turn the heat off at night? Is the heat source from above the cage or do you use an UTH?

I don't use a heat lamp because she isn't out when its on anyway and its warm enough here. On a hot day it gets no more than 100 in the house, on a cold day 80ish (this is for summer). Average is about 90-95.
I haven't had her for winter yet so I'll either be getting a bottom heat pad or a light for her.
I'm planning to bring a sample in next week if I don't see any improvements over the weekend. She hasn't thrown up an immense lot of them. And she has shown no interest in crickets, in fact the pet store said she was quite partial to mealies and had little interest in crickets. She did start out eating from my hand or from my little tweeser things, but she stopped doing it, which sucked cause I liked hand feeding her, it was neat.
I have a little hideaway where I will keep a moist paper towel, especially when it is rather hot. I'll make sure to keep that in her cage from now on, maybe that is a problem, but I don't think it is since my adult has had no problems before I started putting the moist hides in and has had no problems altogehter, except she's more aggressive with food now :S. Oh well .
