Caiman Lizards in Miami

ESglobalherp Apr 22, 2009 03:28 PM

Here is a quick shot of 2 pairs of these beauties

I can't wait to get my group outside in the Florida sun. They are growing rapidly on lots of live and ground up food.

I first saw these back in 1996 when I was 12 years old in a local petshop in Westchester Mall. I was trading and selling them red eyed tree frogs and pictus geckos at the time and I wanted to make enough to get one. The only information they could give was to feed them snails and keep them in a vivarium setup with flowing water. Unfortunately he died a month later.

Up until a month ago , I had never seen them outside a zoo again.

Now I have them in my own private zoo. =)Replicas should be available one day. lol

I got to work with those for a while.

Fascinating and beautiful. Did you know their tails have
fracture planes? I found that out the hard way.

give up television - 100% cold turkey. Leave what isn't real and go to what is real.
Spend time with nature, see the ground and the sky, feel your place on this earth,
see the trees, the plants, birds, animals, feel their life. And feel your own life.

Shedd Aquarium:

So I visit the Shed Aquairium without ever having heard of a Caiman Lizard. I walk down those long isles come around the corner and this very large tank has two 4' - 4.5' long Lizards swimming like puppies in the water! I never saw anything like it! The color on those things is amazing! The Caiman Lizards and a Fry River turtle were to coolest things I saw there that day.

Very cool Spencer!

Very nice pics Jeff. They are unreal to work with in person. I used to have a Fly River as well. I miss that guy. He would take grapes from your hand.

Usually feeding time is about the only interaction I get with the caimans. I wouldnt want to have any accidents.

I am raising some groups with a male in there and one without a male. I have 4 groups at the moment. Maybe more if I could move to a farm. lol One day.

What kind of lizard projects do you have Al? I currently have some Afts and Leo's.
