Puzzle

AbsoluteApril Apr 23, 2009 12:08 PM

Haven’t shared any pics of Puzzle for a while, so snapped a couple while cleaning her cage (and in true boa fashion she pooped last night in the clean digs!).

What a difference the flash makes! With flash:

Without flash and much more true to life:

It’s still a 1.5 yrs before I think she’ll be ready but I’m torn about what to breed her with, either my red group jungle or her brother for some F2 super hypo harlis. Which would you pick?

Thanks for your opinions!

I would go Harly's, not Jungle. You would not know which ones
are which. Beautiful snake though. Maybe Harley/Motley or a
Sharp Snow (colorful morph)??

I would go with your red group jungle. Although the F2 babies sound sweet.
However I'm just not a huge fan of that type of breeding.
I think if you could get a very nice Hypo Harlequin
like yours but unrelated or way less related
even half sibling etc...
It would be far more advantageous

Beautiful boa. And seems to like keeping the bathroom attendant gainfully employed??

I'm in agreement with both previous replies. I would not breed her to a jungle, can you imagine the difficulty deciding, Harly - Jungle - Both?

How related were teh parents of you two? If relatively unrelated should be OK for F2's Not my favorite breeding but then again, can be just fine. I have a pair of F2 Jungles where the original parents were fully unrelated. I may try for a litter of F3's since they are so stunning. Or mix them with my Monstertail Jungles to avoid the possible problems with inbreeding. Will likely do both and see what happens.

LOL Dave! That's the truth!

>> can you imagine the difficulty deciding, Harly - Jungle - Both?

That is true and something that makes me hesitate... however it's been a dream of mine for a while now to do that breeding. I know there was a poss junglexharli litter this year which just makes it even more questionable since they weren't clearly one or the other (that we can tell from forum pics anyways) and the poss jungle hasn't been proved out yet. I may end up having to keep all the babies if I did that breeding and wasn't able to tell what they were. I just think the babies from such a breeding would be phenom! Do I sound as bad as the kahlxsharp posts? lol

>>How related were the parents of your two?

The parents were completely unrelated, the mom was Zahara who I rescued back in '02 she was originally bought at a pet shop. The father was from Tim (Rainshadow) and we can trace that lineage back to his founding harlequins. I attached an old pic of her hypo harli brother below.

I do have an unrelated harlequin het sharp but I am not sure how good of a match he would make, their coloration and patterns are quite different (and at odds IMO). But that is something to think about! Here's a pic of him:

I think both those pairings (F3 and mostertail jungle) would be a good idea!

I say do as you like and further, I think that a choice about breeding your boas should be based as much or more on personal preference rather than anything else.

April, you know my opinion. besides, there just needs to be more harly jungles in the world.

AND, just wait till everyone sees the harlequin SUPERjungles...
