Must have been kinda cold for that sort of "buddy system" to take place!
Here's a Yellowbelly I found a couple weeks ago:

Hey Dan,
Cool shot, I thought racers were cannibalistic ??

Yea, they are, but then again so are wanderings. They're not feeding yet this time of year here, they're just comming out for a bit of sun for a few hours each day.

Dan
It was in the 70s when I found them. The spot is a wandering gartersnake den I check out every spring, I think the racer must have decided to spend the winter with the wanderings.

Dan, just checked out your post on field notes, is that a red-sided garter with the red head, if so they look a lot different than the ones around here, those have more yellow on the lower sides too, and the ones around here are black headed not red, interesting. BTW that bull is pretty colored, and big, apparently she was cold and you didn't get the "heck" bite out of ya.

Hey Jeff, Yea the red sideds arround here are for the most part pretty nice looking. All of the bulls from the last couple posts of mine on the field notes forum were found when the temps were arround 70f, They all went to kill me at first, but usually calm down after a few minutes. Later
