snakeman97 Apr 23, 2009 10:43 PM

My rodents have mites and I have been using seven dust. If I don't get them all will freezing kill the mites. Thanks

Depends ont he species of Acarina the mites belong too.

But washing in water over 130°F or Freezing for 24hrs is sufficiant to kill many species of mite.

Most of the life cycle of mites can stopped at temps above 105°F and below 35°F.

Anyuthing sub-zero should be sufficiant...

Thanks. These mites are small, black and round. I see them on my snakes after I feed them.

Sounds like your snakes have mites, rodent mites aren't found on snakes...

I have been using proventimite for the past 90 days and the mites continue to reappear. I assumed they were coming from the rodents.

As I no longer use Provent a mite, I can't comment on the product.

However its important not only to treat the animal, contents, and enclosure but also the facility to include containers shelves and other potential harbors.

Change substrates use F/T feeders and remove other potental contaminated areas.

Always remember to Assume is to make an A$$ out of U and ME.

I agree, sounds like snake mites. do they look something like....

If so you need to strip everything down, everything out except newspaper, water bowl maybe a plastic hide and animal. Treat enclosure with Provent-a-mite (animal and water bowl out), allow to dry fully before putting water and snake back in. also treat surrounding area. you can "draw" dead lines to prevent them from crossing. aka, they cross, they touch the residue, they die.

Also another product I have used is reptile relief. Can be sprayed directly on snake and will kill on contact. But leaves no preventative barrier so is only effective in killing mites actually on snake.
