....a sad start...

snowboas Apr 24, 2009 06:30 AM

I've been waiting for my snow x snow breeding to drop any day now. Yesterday I looked in my female's cage after work, and found a single baby! I think it had been born several hours earlier, but it was barely moving (I actually thought it was dead, even after looking at it at first). Within another hour, it had died.

The mother still looks engorged, and I'm not thinking she's done, but there are no signs of any more yet...Has anyone else had a single boa born before the rest of the clutch? I'll keep my eyes open today!

Here's the female this morning...still looking like she wants to drop several more for me!

I know I am inexperienced but I have to say this. My friend just
recently had a female that was not giing birth at all, until one
day WAY afer his date, 1 baby dropped out. He freaked out and
called me and I went over there. She looked comfy but also in
pain. I had t palpate her, and when I did I only got 2-3 rubs out
and a waterfall of 17 or so babies came out alive! All over my
arm. I hope this helps??

She still looks pretty full, it does happen from time to time that one or more babies are delivered early. Mother nature knows best, in the pic's it looks like she has her tail folded to the side I think this is their way of holding back the babies until it is time.

Good luck, normally if the babies are full term things turn out fine.

The same thing happened to me last season with my Orangasm Hypo het Snow female. She spit out an preemie Anery het Snow 2 1/2 weeks before the rest of the litter was born. It's actually quite common from what I read & hear.

Best of luck with the litter...keep us posted!
