"Stillman" Corn Update

steveroylance1 Apr 24, 2009 06:17 PM

Some of you might remember this snake being posted here a little while ago. It belongs to a good friend of mine, Adam Stillman. I bred this snake with a wild caught female today, and hopefully to a Motley sometime in the next week to see if it's related to the Motley gene.
This animal was from a wild caught gravid female. 3 in the clutch had somewhat of a weird pattern. This male was the most extreme having a twin spotted pattern and patternless belly.
I will keep you updated on this project. Steve R.

i was very excited about this corn back when it was first talked about. i always thought the twin spots gave the corn a more aggressive look

Fingers crossed it's a new allele.

That's a crazy pattern on that snake! Hopefully it proves out for you as something that can be passed on to future generations.

That is way cool looking, hope it turns out to be genetic for you. The double leopard spots are sweet, and I hate to be the one to have to say it but that dorsal stripe makes it look very garter-like. Definately a unique look for a corn. Will you breed that snake to a stripe as well to see how that interacts? Anybody else thought about what a cross of that snake to Tessera would look like? Wild and crazy, I would imagine

This has been a long time coming for me. Unfortunately the mother died two weeks after she laid her eggs so this project will take a bit longer than I had hoped. Steve and another good friend of our's, Joe Rader, each got one of the 5 males that hatched out. Unfortunately, both of their's and one of the 3 I kept are no longer with us. I still have 2 of the original five, the one Steve has (Striper) and his brother (Raider)...My 10yr old named them. "Raider" is different from "Striper" in appearance, I will try to post some photos later. - Adam Stillman

Were there any females in the clutch to breed the males to? Breeding to the mother would have been great, but since that is not an option, a brother/sister pairing would be great. I didn't see any mention of females?

I am pretty sure there were no females in the clutch, unfortunately.

Sex linked maybe? female lethal? just posing question not saying it's the answer. Why so many deaths with the siblings? I realize it's too soon to draw conclusions and limited data numbers and trials, just interesting, even if it were those things, they can be worked around breeding if it is a new allele, might even actually hold value better if it wasn't "eeeeasy", sometimes things that appear negative can actually be positive, know what I mean. Anyway that is one sweeeeeeet looking snake, best of luck with the project.

I doubt it. Yellow rats are the only ones in the area. Most of the other siblings to this Corn looked completely normal. The plain white belly is making me think it is something far more intricate.

Hey Brother. I'm glad to hear from ya. I'm glad to see you doing so well. I have been breeding Boas for the past five years now. I may pick up a few pairs of corns in the near future. I have been giving it some thought. I dip in here from time to time to see whos still around. Anyway, take care. It was good to talk to you. Mike Panichi
