A great loss in our Sunburst project

rkreptiles Apr 24, 2009 06:25 PM

I arrived home this evening after work and dinner out and went out to check on the snakes and rat colony. I looked up at the Original Sunburst Pastel Male that we produced in 2006 and found that he was dead. This was a total shock as he was doing awesome. He had recovered from a URI and was back on track and it is a mystery on why he would just up and drop out. We are saddened as he was the only Male Sunburst in exhistance alive. We produced a male last year again but that male did not survive more than a few days after hatching. Hopefully his mother (Cosmic morph) and his sister Sunburst that he bred this season will take and produce more Male Sunburst and hopefully super sunburst. What a way to ruin a nice start to a weekend.

.. that Rob.

I have some key animals in some projects that are in various stages of proving that MUST stay healthy -- if you know what I mean. I also have some snakes that are not the rare genetically that I just like!! I am a sucker for snakes with great personalities.

I wish you luck in producing a substitute -- as he can certainly not be replaced.

Rob, what is the Sunburst Pastel again?

Sorry about the male man, that really sucks!

Sorry to hear, hope you can produce some more in the future.

Sorry to hear that rob. Many people do not realize how difficult it can be to work with a brand new mutation. A single problem can really sideline the project!

All the best to you on these clutches!

Thanks everyone. It really sucks but the only saving grace is I still have the original parents as well as 2 female Sunburst from the first clutch in 2006 and 2 females from the second clutch in 2007. We just really have our fingers crossed on the breedings this past season that will be fruitful. We bred the sunburst male to one of his sisters & his mother and the other sunburst female was bred to a spider. The resemble Super Pastels but are a combination of Pastel and our new mutation we call "Cosmic". We are hoping to produce the super Cosmic this year but are still waiting to see if the girls are going to lay.

Here is a link the NERD's page on this project as well as here are a couple of pics of some of the sunburst for a refresher.
