lots of clear liquid during feeding?

goregrind Apr 26, 2009 01:51 PM

i had a live mouse (i crushed its upper jaw first) that seemed pregnant i tried feeding to my picky ball but he refused so i gave it to my adult corn

i was dangling the mouse by the tail and it made a quick jot towards the corns head before she was ready to strike. she grabbed the mouse by the side of the head and threw a single coil around the head/ neck area and almost immedietly a puddle of clear liquid started forming, after the mouse was dead and released it was soaked and looked just a little "flat and loose skinned" the corn looked fine but she wouldnt eat it, she lazily bit it a few times but that was it. i put the mouse in the freezer so i can wash it off and use it next week and i will give my corn some time to recover before the next feeding just in case (1 week?)

the liquid was clear and a little stringy with the consintecy of drool and no odor that i noticed.

about an hour before fedding i cleaned the water bowls and filled it witrh fresh water and she loves to drink.

so does it seem my corn vommited a stomach full of water or was this related to the mouse possibly being pregnant?

Sounds like maybe the mouse gagged up some goop while being constricted.

could be she was too full of water...I have seen snakes drink then water ran out of them if hung upside down...too much too fast....

as for not eating...too big....maybe the corn knows the mouse is too big....they do this....

....you crushed the live mouse's upper jaw while alive, before feeding???????..why????....cruel to mice ideas?...putting it on the web for any Peta idiot to read ideas???

...think about it....

be kind to mice...they have feelings too.....

...type is read by anyone in here.............

I have to agree. I held my tongue before. If you're worried about a mouse hurting a snake than prekill it. Don't cause unnessary suffering. I drop them in live and unharmed every week. Never had a problem. If the mice are not eaten, then I simply put them back in their cage uninjured.

i know its cruel but id rather injure the mouse thats about to die than have one of my snakes get injured.

this same snake had its tongue sheath injured during feeding a few years back.

ive seen pictures of what happens to snakes that dont feel like eating that get left overnight with a rodent and it was horrible.

like i said i only have one snake that is picky so i dont do this often, plus i think the scent of blood might help

I throw in mice and check in like 15 minutes...or rats or chinese hamster or peromyscus or asfr etc etc...

corns...they eat out of my hand...or they don't get fed...usually....and really....corns eat when they want ...no need to fool around with them...

picky feeder?...I will throw in a few fuzzies and let them till eaten or they die or I check .....

stuff like that''

...people are out to get us.....things like the broken jaw is their tool............

.....20 years snakes....only 1 injury....baby ball, hopper mouse all night....must have been one stupid snake.....
