Creamsicle genetics?

DONTshoot Apr 26, 2009 04:04 PM

Hello, i just recently purchased a creamsicle female, what genetics are involved. After doing some browsing I've come to find they are an amelanistic cross with Emory ratsnake. So is this an albino hybrid with a diff' ratsnake? What are some good breeding possibilities?

Thanks for your replies.

At the time they were created, Corns and Great Plains Ratsnakes were thought to be the same species, yet different subspecies, which naturally intergrated (like "Greenish" Rat Snakes [Yellow Rat Snake x Black Rat Snake]).

Since then, Great Plains Rats have been broken out as a seperate species than corns. Therefore the albino version of this cross, known as a creamsicle, is a hybrid (assuming you believe the current classification).

"Good" breeding projects are in the eye of the beholder. There are many people who want to keep their corns "pure."

As far as GPR x Corn options go, there's nothing wrong with simply making more creamsicles. In addition, there have been snow, hypo, and anery GPR/Corn crosses.

There's also creamsicle motleys and stripes - which I think look pretty cool.

The choices are yours.
Some people do not like mixes and some do.
You can breed a creamsicle to any corn, emoryi rat snake or corn/emoryi mix.
Personally I would recommend breeding it to some version of corn/emoryi cross but like I said, It's your choice.
creamsicle: creamsicle to creamsicle will give you creamsicles.
rootbeer: (normal emoryi/corn): creamsicle to rootbeer will give you rooberrs het amel or possible more creamsicles because a lot of rootbeers will be het amel.
cinnamon: (emoryi/corn expressing hypomelanism): creamsicle to cinnamon will give you rootbeers het amel het hypo. Once again this depends on possible hets.
snowsicle: (snow version or emoryi/corn expressing amelanism and anerythrism): creamsicle to snowsicle will give you creamsicles het anery.
and there are more.
whatever you decide make sure to always tell anyone who may get offspring from a breeding to that cream that there is emoryi in the mix.
Always make this known!

thanks, for the replies. Yea, I normally keep boas and that is the hot topic there also, whether to cross breed different subspecies boa constrictor imperator X boa constrictor constrictor.
My question is, can I breed with regular albino corns (amelanistics) is this the same strain?

Thanks, Ruben

Yes you can because the albino used to make creamsicles if the corn snake's albino. But all the offspring will be creamsicles because they will have emory blood in them. And just incase you wanted to ask the emory's albino is not compatible,
