Male Burm Won't Breed???

MikeSkipRocks Apr 26, 2009 10:27 PM

I have a Albino-Granite Male that is roughly 8-9 feet. Trying to breed to an Albino-Het Granite Female roughly 12 feet. They breed last year with no problem at all. When I placed them together before the male showed alot of interest and they were breeding the next morning when I checked.

However This time ( about a week now ) I have re-introduced the male he shows no interest at all. I have kept them apart all year round. I figured it would go just like last time but its not. Not sure of what I can/should do to peek his interest.

I have them in a 6' long 3' wide 3' enclosure

The female is bulked up alittle since last year, eating on rabbits and baby pigs now.

The male is also alittle larger than last season. eating on jumbo rats. He did eat the week before i put them together. Could that be causing his lack of interest. Or perhaps the females increased size putting him off? Temps? Light Cycle?

Anyone know how to get my burms mojo back?

its not breeding season. My burms always bred the exact same time every year. No matter when I paired them up they bred, ovulated, laid eggs, within a few days of the year before, every year.

I really wish that didn't make perfect sense. In 08 I put them together in early Feb.Somehow I guess I just got lucky. I waited longer this year to put more weight on the female. Snooze ya Loose I guess. I plan to keep putting them together at the end of every month for a week. Don't know if that will do any good but I'll try.

I was thinking of trying to pair her with a diff male. However I'm not sure I can find a male adult albino granite. Also the two of them make great looking babies.

Nice looking snake! I'm not a breeder of Burms, but I was under the impression that Feb was the time of year for that sort of thing.

Yeah That was/is one of the many things I needed to learn the hard way. Oh well I don't think it will hurt her to take a season off anyways.

One thing that we learn is that nature will do what it wants to do when it wants to do it. Your male may not be the problem. Your female may simply may not be ready. When she is not ready she won't produce the pheramones that induce the males interest. Most of the breeders of pythons that I work with and myself included, usually introduce the breeding pair in Nov.- Jan. I will not say that they will not breed any other time but it sounds like your girl may not be in the mood. Rich

I am about to take my male back out and put him back in his tank and i'm cleaning the females enclosure. So I put them both in the spare room to play while i go to work. I just peeked in on them to make sure they were behaving, and what do I see.

My male is trying to breed her like crazy. I guess they just needed alittle more room to get down. I duno why really but they are going at it now so i'm guna let it ride. Next season I'm guna go by the book tho and breed in feb. or as soon as my male starts getting really active.
