Black Mexican King Snake eatting habbits

mikewise Apr 27, 2009 12:37 AM

Hey, I was feeding my BMKS(black mexican king snake) today and the oddest thing happened. I like to wiggle the mouse around when feeding to get her to strike and curl. I put the mouse in front of her and she past right by and when i put it up to her body she "crushed" it with the lower part of her body. Her head wasn't even looking at it at all, I have never had this happen! I have had them let go with their mouths and keep crushing it but never without bitting it first. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happened or if it is really common and I am just too new to the trade to have had this happen.

If you're feeding pre-killed or frozen thawed, some snakes realize that it isn't a threat and just pin it to get ready for the next prey item. MBKs are pretty hearty eaters (at least the ones I've had have been). Do you normally feed multiple prey items or was this prey item smaller than usual?

i normally feed multiple mice per feeding i actually use this to speed up the time it takes me to feed i'll let my BMK snake wrap one or two mice and have her eat one too then i can tend to my other snakes. thanks for the response!
