OT, herping in the backyard...

rainbowsrus Apr 27, 2009 12:24 PM

LOL, have this colony of California Lungless Salamanders in my back yard. I find them all the time in the fall/winter/spring umderneath objects (I leave small planks in the back yard for them) In the summer as the backyard dries out, they retreat to moist areas, probably underground. Only found one today....

and yeah, I know, actually amphibians but still cool little critters!!

I Love it Dave ,Salamanders are great ! Amphibians are great,Reptiles are great .
Boas are the Greatest.

I used to love to catch Tiger Salamanders,Garter snakes,
frogs turtles crayfish,LOL
Easy good Places to herp are fast disappearing around me.
I used step out my my back door and walk in any direction
and I could catch a Garter snake or some type of herp.

What nifty little critters those are! Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of wildlife where I live now... but where I grew up I did. May not have had many friends living way out in the middle of nowhere, but never ran out of things to do!
