When a boa is double het for sunglow, what are the two morphs that it is het for?

This is a Hypo heterozygous for Albino
A sunglow is a Boa displaying the Hypo trait
as well as the Homozygous Albino trait.
So a Sunglow is a Hypo Albino Boa.

Why not het for both hypo and albino, is hypo not recessive? I am asking because I am trying to define a similar situation in another species.

It is actually het for both Hypo and Albino. In Boa constrictors, hypo is a dominant morph so being het for hypo is visual hypo. Albino is recesive so het Albino looks normal. A DH Sunglow is an animal that shows the hypo trait and is also het for Albino.

What is produced when two hypos(that are not het for anything) are bred together?

rainbowsrus Apr 28, 2009 10:50 AM

Assuming both are Het Hypos then....

1/4 Super Hypo (or homozygous Hypo)
1/2 Hypo
1/4 Normal

Problem is you can't always tell the homozygous Hypos from the heterozygous Hypos. Yeah some are more obvious than others. but there is a grey area where it could have one or two Hypo genes and the only way to know for sure is to breed it. That is why Hypo in BCI is classified as a dominant trait.

1/2 Hypo, 1/4 Super Hypo (when bred to a normal ALL babies are
Hypo) and 1/4 Normal

ATRA Apr 28, 2009 01:09 PM

Dbl het Sunglow means ......

The boa is a HYPO and het for albino and sunglow (hypo albino).

Only a hypo can be dbl het sunglow.
