Happy Gray

DannyBoy9 Apr 27, 2009 07:08 PM

We'd been observing the progress of a nest of chickadees in our little bird house, seemingly beyond the reach of any predators. Loraine peered in once again, only to see the very satisfied face of this young gray. The parent birds, judging by their behaviors, were truly pissed! The pict was taken after we unscrewed the lid off.

My guess is a big "yepper." Just a ratsnake doing what ratsnakes do. Too bad it has to be in your private nest box...

Ironic, but that IS what we love about 'em ain't it. Would love to see pics of the birdhouse "in situ" just to know what kind of magic it had to pull off to get at it.

We'll definitely send "in situ" picts tomorrow to show just what a sneaky snake it had to be to locate & pull off his snatch. It goes to show just how powerful is their sense of smell! To the previous poster, yep, they were birdlings, not eggs.

Hey Bill!
I responded to your post & nothing appeared. Will try again. I think the gray had the lucky find, not me...
We're just shy of 40 sub-ocs now. Acquired some orange phases from Dusty that we're excited about.
Shoot me an e-mail & bring me up to date with your brood & herping activities.
