Dried zits in a dragon?

ecb Sep 12, 2003 07:33 PM

I went to go check on the Mtn Drgn at the pet store, and he is skinny, and belly is FIRM and thin, with a fold of skin along the bottom (closer to the ground, not closer to the butt)
and he has a white raised hard bump on his spine in his tail (close to the top, caudal) and another one on hs side, along one of his ribs, but it seems to be palpable
His Horns are bright colored, but less bright than last time I saw him when he looked so much better

*Have you ever seen the TV show Doug Funnie?
remember the one where he has a Zit, round, raised, with a white top, but all round like a half a cantalope (but smaller, bigger than any of his knuckles, maybe the size of his eyeball, or ear)

is any of this something you have seen before?
is it majorly bad? besides the dehydration
They are taking him out of the tank he is in, and setting him up in one with more humidity, and a dripper (he still does not have running water)
I wish I had a working Camera, I would bring it in, and get a pic of the abcess/Pustule/growth
They have him in with a spiney Iguana

I wish they would give him to me (or sell him super cheep), I would get him to the better vet I have found. I would spend $50-100 on just that first checkup. Get him treated with pancure and some Flagyl. Get some food in him.

I wish he would get better

I don't know what to use to search but I do recall a post about one that looked like it had zits. I don't recall what the problem was or if it was officially diagnosed but I believe the animal didn't make it. I would guess some sort of infection but having never seen the condition I would be leary of bringing one home in that condition. The key would be isolation from the other animals and although I am usually somewhat of an optomist I would try not to be overly optomistic until there was a diagnosis and good prognosis from the better vet.

I feel for you and the desire to rescue these guys. It's your call and if you do get him we will be here to give support. The fold sounds like dehydration or not enough food. spiney Iguanas aren't from the same climate are they?

I am sorry to hear that but am not really surprised either. He didn't sound good and although I couldn't find that old post I believe that other dragon didn't live either. It's funny though that we haven't seen more of this condition in our wild caughts. It makes me curious as to what it is and what is the cause. Although I really hope I don't have to find out any time soon!

PS good luck with the contractors. Are you haveing a house built or remodeled?

They showed up 2 hours AFTER the later of the time range they agreed upon
and stated they had been called to come to this job just 40 min before they arrived
and NO-ONE called me from the Company to say, we are sorry but; our crew is having trouble,
or,
got lost,
or,
killed the entire order of The Imaculate Heart nunnery and are now in jail
as a way of telling em they were running late

So I got to work 2 hours late, I was told on the estimate that they would not be using a jackhammer because it was not good for my old basement (putting in a drainage system for a leaking wall) but the crew came WITH a jackhammer and no alternative
So I canceled the job, I M not comfortable with the organization at this point.
GGRAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
sorry had to yell (there is some bad feelings from before, so I needed that)

and if you need, scream again! Reminds me of the lumber order my husband placed at Menard's. We just moved our antique shop from a very small area into one that is more than double the size. We were able to move the cases my hubby built into the new area but needed somewhere around $1500 in materials to build matching ones for the rest of our new shop. He placed the order and they told him they would call when they were ready to deliver it.

The saturday it was scheduled for delivery he got a call telling him it would be delivered between noon and 4 pm. So, he sat at home and waited for them all afternoon. At 5 pm he called to see what had happened to the delivery truck and they told him it was just then being loaded! Menard's is in a town that's 70 miles or 1 hour away from us so he figured the load would arrive between 6 and 6:30. Well, he waited and waited and when 8 pm rolled around and it was time to close shop I called to see if he was comming to pick me up. He told me the truck had just arrived and that he couldn't leave just them. I walked home, about 7 blocks, and they were just leaving as I walked that last half block towards the house.

To top it off, much of the material was damaged when they lifted it off the truck with their fork lift. What a mess! I know that people in these typs of work have to be flexible with their schedules and we need to be understanding but there should be limits. Like you said, can't they call and explain that they have been delayed so that you don't waste so much time waiting?
