Baby Eastern Boxie won't eat??

Huntersridge Apr 28, 2009 08:37 AM

I just bought a pair of CBB '08 Eastern Box Turtles. I've had them for a couple of weeks now and 1 of them is not eating. He hasn't eaten for about 5 or 6 days now. His littermate has no problems eating. He devours his meal everytime. Right now I am feeding them small leaf worms cut into small portions. The boxie that eats will attack the moving worm and is now starting to head for the food dish on his own in search of a meal. The other turtle is energetic and shows good health, I am just concrened why he won't eat. Should I be offering him something different other than the small leaf worms?

Thank you,
Jim

How are you feeding them? I put mine in a small container with just a little warm water and add some cut up earth worms, little pill bugs and turtle chow. I cover the comtainer with a towel and after a helf hour everything is gone. You could also try some black worms. I buy the frozen ones that come in little blocks and put a block in warm water and when it defrosts put some of that in the container. When they get older, I just put their food in the vivarium.

Terryo,

Thanks for the reply. He is eating not. I kept puting the pair into a dish of very shall water with cut up leaf worms and only the bigger baby would eat. I tried putting the smaller one (non eater) into a pan with no water by himself in the MORNING. It took him a few minutes to catch on but he ended up eating everything. After that he hasn't had a problem. I did notice they prefer morning feeding and do not like their food place in even a small amount of water. I have a dry dish with food and a seperate water dish and that is working nicely.
