still wondering about one thing

hayseed Apr 28, 2009 01:59 PM

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question. One thing I'm still wondering about.

My gravid female is really getting humongous and lumpy now. She definitely has a belly full of eggs and hopefully will lay them soon.

My question is this. After they get their colors and ovulate, do they actually produce eggs whether they have mated or not? I'm just wondering because I've never seen anything that looked like mating behavior, although I'm gone a lot. I also wondered because Leopard geckos generally do not produce eggs unless they have mated. Not sure about collareds in this regard.

I won't be surprised if she lays infertile eggs, but I was just wondering about this.

I guess I'll know for sure after I get the eggs, but I would be interested to know your thoughts about this.

Would they go orange and produce infertile eggs even if there was no male even around?

Thanks,

John

Hahhaha ! Hi John, yes they get their blush color, and develop eggs and lay them even without the male. But yes of course without the male, they will not be fertile. So always prepare a nest /dampened sand anyway so she will have a place to lay.
