my adult eastern box turtle just came up from the winter on sat. monday i noticed her eye was swollen shut and goupy. i got the zoo med turtle eye drop and followed instructions. when the two drops hit her eye it instantly opened to show blood shot watery nasty stuff. her eye remained open for the night. i came home from work today and now both eyes have the same symptoms put drops in both eyes and now there both open again. this turtle is 14 years old and has lived in the same outdoor pen its entire life that ive had her. i have never changed anything it nor do i use any chemicals on my property. i dont get it. any ideas

Now and again one of mine will emerge from hibernation with goopy eyes, and what I have had success with is simply washing them with clean, tepid water. After a few days the problem resolves. I only use something stronger if there are signs of actual infection.

Here's a link to an online article. If the goopiness is clear, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
